With over a decade of advanced clinical experience and extensive expertise in canine rehabilitation, Dr. Huxley provides evidence-based care for geriatric dogs, post-operative patients, neurologic conditions, weight management cases, and complex orthopedic injuries.
Every treatment plan is thoughtfully designed and customized to the individual dog. Combining therapeutic exercise, manual therapy, laser modalities, and progressive conditioning techniques to optimize recovery and long-term function.
The goal is not just healing, but helping each dog return to an active, confident, and joyful life.
In addition to rehabilitation and performance conditioning, Dr. Huxley provides professional wheelchair and brace fittings, ensuring each device is properly selected and adjusted to support comfort, independence, and mobility.
SENIOR DOGS, ARTHRITIS, AND MOBILITY
Arthritis affects at least 1 in 5 dogs, with this number increasing in older dogs, those who are overweight, or those with other joint disorders. While arthritis is not curable, it can be effectively managed, allowing dogs to live happy, active lives.
We offer customized plans tailored to each patient, addressing pain management, joint supplements, weight loss, exercise, and nutrition. When appropriate, we will also discuss additional treatment options, including stem cell therapy, platelet-rich plasma, laser therapy, surgery, and other modalities.
ORTHOPEDIC: POST-OPERATIVE
Research has shown that dogs are twice as likely to achieve optimal outcomes following cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) surgery when enrolled in a formal rehabilitation program, compared to those who only perform home exercises. Rehabilitation also benefits other orthopedic surgeries by focusing on muscle strengthening and tissue healing.
Our team has extensive experience in treating dogs after various surgeries, including:
CCL surgeries (TPLO, lateral suture/MRIT, TTA, CBLO)
Hip surgeries (FHO, hip replacement)
Fractures
Achilles tendon surgery
Elbow surgeries (FCP, OCD)
Shoulder surgeries (OCD, medial shoulder instability, biceps tendon release)
Amputation
ORTHOPEDIC: NON-SURGICAL
(Dysplasia, iliopsoas strain, etc)
Certain orthopedic conditions can be effectively treated with rehabilitation instead of surgery. Conditions such as hip and elbow dysplasia, arthritis, iliopsoas strains, and tendinopathies are examples where rehabilitation may be a viable option. For pets who are not candidates for surgery for various reasons, our therapist will explore all available treatment options to support your pet's recovery.
NEUROLOGICAL
We treat pets with a wide range of neurologic conditions, and rehabilitation plays a key role in their recovery. It is particularly beneficial for pets with neurologic diseases such as intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), fibrocartilaginous embolism (FCE), spinal trauma, and Degenerative Myelopathy (DM).
Dogs with IVDD (disc herniation) should first be evaluated by a neurologist, as surgery is often required. Rehabilitation following IVDD surgery, as well as for conditions like FCE, DM, and other neurologic disorders, helps dogs regain mobility and independence. Additionally, we provide bracing and wheelchair fittings when appropriate.
